ALL GOOD IN THE HOOD

Captain Edward J. Smith who went down with his ship The Titanic in 1912,  would have been likely to have said  “Little Tommy, It’s going to be as right as rain”. It was a popular new saying at the time. Eeek.

These days; 100 years on, your more likely to hear your cab driver say  “It’s all Good love” when navigating the voyage to your front door.

A bit of history to this cute as saying...

The earliest example of the same meaning,  quoted as a proverb as long ago as 1546, is “Right as a line”  which in those days meant exactly what it said,  “yes your lordship that is correct and acceptable”

Then by 1622 it had become “Right as my leg” ...I quite like this one...let’s bring it back.

In 1837 the Charles Dickens's Pickwick Papers  are quoted to say “Right as a trivet, sir”.
About the same time, or a little later, people were saying that things were as right as ninepence, as right as a book, as right as nails, or as right as the bank.

The first literary example I can find of this, my favourite rain saying is from Max Beerbohm's book Yet Again of 1909:
"He looked, as himself would undoubtedly have said, 'fit as a fiddle'"; or "right as rain".

Right As Rain has never since disappeared, and you know what neither has the rain.

HOW I'VE MIST YOU

FOG.

The tiny droplets of water that make up fog are so small that it would take seven thousand million of them to make a single tablespoon of water.

The foggiest place on earth is the Grand Banks off the island of Newfoundland.

This picture makes me think of pirates.

Prada Spring Summer 2010- Clear Plastic Rain Mac.
Excruciatingly beautiful.

CHARLES MACINTOSH.
b. 1766   d. 1843

Almost 200 years ago, Charles Macintosh spread rubber onto cloth forming the first waterproof fabric. Macintosh has been crafting raincoats ever since. To this day Macintosh makes every coat by hand using the same procedures established in the 19th century and each seam is still sealed water tight with a glue applied by the craftmans hand.

Every raincoat designed since has been influenced somehow by this original waterproof gem.

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MUD

GOLDEN PLAINS MUSIC FESTIVAL.

It was a weather enthusiast dream, we had all four seasons covered.
There was the potential for enough mud for wrestling (well, it would have happened at our camp) but to everyone elses delight, it held off.
It didnt stop these two cuties from bringing a few raindrops with them.

...and so a new catagory is born...

GOODBYE SUMMER HELLO AUTUMN

Dear Mr Summer Weather,

Im sorry if I'm just a bit confused here but when exactly did you arrive in Melbourne? I don't yet feel satisfied with this years beach day quota and I am wondering if you'll be back.
Judging from this photo I just took outside, you have already left for your Winter break and I feel a little lost that you didn't let me know where you were going.

I'd love to hear from you again

CHAMPAGNE & UMBRELLAS

WAPPING PROJECT
London 2007.

I actually stumbled across this at the Wapping Project back when. It was one of those- bring a smile to your day-moments.

The Project teamed up with Veuve Clicquot to produce the brollies- Goldsmiths art college student Sam Spenser created the work, named Bloom, which was exhibited in an oak tree outside the Wapping Project.

Maybe we should toast with a glass of - The widow Clicquot?

GONE WITH THE WIND

THANET WIND FARM- ENGLISH CHANNEL.

WIND. Let’s talk about it.
I found myself complaining last Sunday because Melbourne was experiencing a really blustery day.
In the morning my dress went over my head on the way to get a coffee, and by the Afternoon I had developed that weird crazyness you often find horses get when it's very windy-  jumpy and irritable basically.
It got me thinking, what is the wind?
Well of course it’s bulk movement of air, technically it is the flow of gasses on a large scale. Hmm really large scale.
I may complain but what i certainly must take note for next time I question- is that we just wouldn’t be where we are right now if it wasn’t for the wind.
Sailing ships wouldn’t have crossed the oceans like they did and when they did, 747’s wouldn’t get the lift they do and we wouldn’t have wind energy.
The impact that wind had on the creating of all continents and landforms on earth is worth the horse-crazy moods.
Just don’t get too cocky Mr Wind.
